Royal Lake Estate

Project:

To assist in selecting all of the interior finishes and furnishings for a new spacious home being built. To return once the house was built to determine everyday accessories and Christmas décor.

Inspiration:

This particular client wanted a clean, neutral and timeless overall feel. I recall her striving for a glitzy bathroom for her grown daughter and a masculine bathroom for her grown son to return home to; Portobello colored kitchen cabinets subway tile for the kitchen backsplash and a grand fireplace in the family room.

The Client:

Retired teacher and current insurance sales/financial adviser in Cape Girardeau, MO. Parents of two and grandparents of four. Built a home to be large enough to accommodate all of their immediate family when they come home.

What We Love:

•     The substantial fireplace she longed for. The layout was developed by determining how large we wanted to make it,  the type of fireplace and log insert we wanted to use, what types of storage to include,  mantel would be, how to incorporate a mantel, the type of stack stone (this very important to her) and what finish the cabinetry and mantel would be.

•    How great all of the different mirrors look. There was only one bathroom the client wanted to use a full-sized custom cut and installed mirror, but other than that, she wanted to have fun selecting a different mirror for each vanity: sophisticated for the master, glitzy for her daughters room, simple for the son and a little ornate for the powder bath. FYI- Mirror placement shouldn’t be a hasty decision. There were multiple hours spent selecting the perfect mirror that would not only look great aesthetically, but that would also fit under bath-bars or in between sconces and drawn to scale so the client knew what they could expect.

•    The flow of the house. Each room wasn’t designed separately, it was designed as one space. Sherwin Williams’s #7538 Tamarind used as the main paint color in the majority of the common areas and similar colors were incorporated in other finishes throughout the entire home.

What We Did:

I met with the client on several occasions to narrow down: the tile she had selected, where we would use it, how it would be installed and what grout colors to specify; paint colors, sheens and locations; cabinetry styles, finishes and hardware; countertops, types of sinks and faucets; lighting fixtures and mirrors were chosen by aesthetics and size; elevations were drawn to scale of: the mirror to light ratio, the fireplace design details and of the furniture layout to ensure the client would be happy. I met with her from time to time while the house was being constructed to make sure things were running smoothly and things were being installed as we had planned early on; while she met with the general contractor and the subs more regularly. The fall after the home owners moved into their new home I was asked to prepare the home for the holidays and the Lutheran Family Children Services Holiday Home Tour. I helped the client display sentimental collections and heirlooms while adding new custom made coordinating holiday elements. Here recently, I returned to assist the client in selecting specific sizes to order family pictures, selected framing and installed the wall hangings.
